Autumn in bloom?

Yesterday, on the first day of fall, we got an unexpected surprise. Cera’s rose bush had three new buds, revealing flowers much darker in color than it had produced earlier in the year. The buds are opening today, and the roses are just beautiful.

We discovered a fourth bud as well, also the same vibrant pink but way lower on the bush. I don’t think that one’s going to make it, though – it looks like something – whether the lower temperatures or an insect – may have gotten to it overnight.

Still, it was nice to have one last reminder of what was a wonderful summer before the colder days that lie ahead.
