I think I’m paranoid …

This morning, I stepped outside my front door and heard running water.

And I started to panic.

Because we’ve had two waterline breaks in less than three months, including one that was under our driveway, my immediate thought was, “Oh no, not another one.” Especially since we’re about to leave for a three-day weekend, without the kids, something my husband and I rarely do and have been looking forward to for months.

So I started to stalk the sound.

“Mommy, what are you doing?” Cera called from the front yard as I rounded the side of the house.

“Shhh!” I responded, walking hunched over as I continued to track the water.

And then another interruption.

“Good morning,” my neighbor Donna said softly.

I glanced up to see her watching me quizzically – as she watered her backyard flower garden with a hose.

Wow, did I feel like a fool.

On my way to work, I called my husband to share my embarrassing story, and he made me feel much better by confessing that his own stomach had lurched the night before when he lost water pressure while taking a shower, only to realize later that it was because I had been doing a load of laundry at the same time.

I guess with our track record as of late, it’s smart to exercise caution. But I’m starting to think we both need to relax a little.
