It’s berry time :-)

I wanted to take a quick break from my vacation blogs to encourage my fellow North Carolinians to get thee to a berry patch, if you haven’t done so already.

Jerry and I took the kids to pick strawberries on Sunday afternoon, and just $8 and 20 minutes or so later, we had filled an entire bucket with the prettiest, plumpest, juiciest (this I know because my daughter ate many berries straight from the plant, and her chin was stained red from their juices – see evidence below) strawberries I’ve ever seen.

In addition to returning home with a tasty and healthy snack (although not so much when you pile them atop a big bowl of vanilla ice cream, my favorite way to eat strawberries), our trip to the berry patch gave the kids a chance to run off some steam. Cera picked a ton of berries (although Jerry is convinced that only one went in the bucket for every three that went in her mouth), and Anthony, who is 2 and wasn’t all that interested in picking – although he did do his share of eating, tired himself out running all the way to the end of the row we were working and then back again.

So if you’re looking for a fun – and inexpensive – family activity this Mother’s Day weekend, I would recommend heading to the nearest berry patch. Because there’s nothing quite as sweet as a nice, big North Carolina strawberry, unless it’s spending quality time with your kids.
